This book began as letters that Rob Greidanus, a young Canadian physician, wrote to
bring his family, friends and other supporters closer to his experiences on the medical
frontlines in Africa: a mission hospital in Kapsowar, northwestern Kenya, a state hospital in
Rundu, northern Namibia, and a large referral hospital in Windhoek, Namibia. It is a personal
account of his journey—the struggles, sorrows, and joys—but also the story of the people he
met there, most of whom call Africa home.
